In order to expedite the trial and conclusion of summary cases, to help mitigate the burdens of parties in the case and to upgrade the quality of the trial, summary divisions are established to take charge of the criminal and civil summary cases, and cases under the Social Order Maintenance Act.  Through convenient and expeditious trial procedures, the court can promptly resolve the venial disputes or offenses and safeguard the stability and peace of people’s daily life.

Upon application by a plaintiff, the civil summary procedure is for those case in which the price or value of claim is not more than 500 thousand NT dollars and for some other specific simple legal matters irrespective of the price or value, such as: fixed-term lease and loan, one year or less -term hire of services, dispute between a traveler and an innkeeper or a restaurant owner, protection of possession, determination of boundary lines of real estate, a claim relating to the negotiable instruments, bid societies, or the interest, bonus, rent and other periodical payments.
